A new Finder icon for Yosemite and El Capitan

posted in: blog | 0

Apple’s new Finder icon for Yosemite has been growing on me. It’s not my favourite, but it’s not terrible, either. That said, I feel like Apple is erasing the history of an icon that I’ve become accustomed to seeing ever since I was a young child. The new icon doesn’t retain that 90’s feel that all the previous Finder icons tried to keep.

So, with that said, I’ve designed two Finder icons that you can use to replace the Yosemite finder icon on your Dock. They’re both flat in design and they’re essentially the same Finder design as in Mavericks, but flattened up for Yosemite and El Capitan. There’s two designs… the traditional purple one (right), and a lighter ‘aqua’ one that tries to fit in with the new flat UI while avoiding bright colours.

You can download them all from here. There’s two .png files and their source .ai vector files, so you can modify things to your heart’s content. Enjoy!
